Guest Lecture with Assoc. Prof. Zaher Judeh from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore

The Bachelor of Chemistry, Bachelor of Chemistry Education and Master of Chemistry study programs had the opportunity to hold a guest lecture with the theme "Functionalized Furans from Carbohydrates" with resource person Assoc. Prof. Zaher Judeh from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore on Wednesday (13/11/2024). Research Assoc. Prof. Zaher Judeh covers carbohydrate chemistry, natural product chemistry, reaction methodology, and active ingredient formulation. This activity offers a unique opportunity for students to interact directly with experts, practitioners or leading figures on an international scale and broaden their knowledge in various fields, especially in the field of eye care. organic chemistry lecture which is also taught by all Chemistry students.
In its implementation, the resource person explains the material regarding < /span>one-step, chemo-, stereo- and regio-selective synthesis of densely functionalized furans from unprotected and inactivated carbohydrates. He presented evidence of the reaction mechanism using HRMS. This simple reaction takes place through a cascade mechanism involving Knoevenagel condensation, Oxo-Micheal addition, Thorpe-Ziegler type reactions followed by ring opening-induced aromatization.
Guest lecture participants from students to lecturers were very enthusiastic so many people attended the lecture. ask questions in the question and answer session at the end of the activity. Hopefully this guest lecture activity will be useful not only for students, lecturers, but also for the Chemistry, FMIPA, UNESA groups.
