Visiting Lecturer in Natural Product Chemistry Course

 The authenticity of food is concern to religious communities, especially Muslims, because the possibility non-halal ingredients in food and other commercial products. For example, food additives are one of the ingredients commonly used by humans to improve the taste, texture, appearance and color of food. Currently, there are many food and pharmaceutical products available in the market that are supplied to consumers where the actual content of the products is unclear. Therefore, halal verification and authentication is very necessary.  In addition, food products often contain natural pigmens  which have antioxidants and antimicrobials activity.

Natural chemistry courses are very important because they study secondary metabolite compounds produced by plants including natural pigments contained in food products, either molecular structure, biosynthetic reactions, and their biological activity  as antioxidants and antimicrobials (antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral).

This course will be attended by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nurrulhidayah Ahmad Fadzlillah as visiting lecturer from International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). She concerned about researching halal products. Some of the researches are: Halal Assurance Management System in Chicken Broiler Industry, Lipid-based Techniques Used for Halal and Kosher Food Authentication, Halal Risk Control at the Upstream Level of the Chicken Broiler Supply Chain, Study on Physiochemical Properties and the Halalness of Commercially Marketed Vinegar in Malaysia, Antioxidant and Antimicrobial of Natural Pigments in Food Products, and many more.

Moreover, Prof. Dr. Suyatno, M.Si as moderator and Natural Product Chemistry Lecturer who has expertise in the field of natural product compounds isolation,  determination of their molecular structure and biological activity.
